As a Finance Director or a Chief Financial Officer you are expected to be much more than a good accountant and administrator. You have to be technically competent, possess strategic awareness, have good communication skills, leadership capabilities and be commercially and sales aware. You are also expected to contribute to the organisation as a business partner with the Managing Director or Chief Executive Officer.

However, you often also face the challenges raised by management restructures, especially as a new appointee. The result is that you struggle with the expectations of your role. Some of the reasons I have found in the past that affect Finance Directors or Chief Financial Officer’s include fear, doubt, a lack of trust, lack of confidence or motivation as well as credibility issues with colleagues and fellow directors. The results are real feelings of frustration and increasing pressure which meant their levels of performance and effectiveness fell well short of their potential. In turn they were unable to offer their Managing Director or Chief Executive Officer the necessary levels of support.

I use Business Coaching techniques and methods that are flexible to suit your needs and focus on your specific issues. I ask challenging questions, offer a fresh perspective on situations based on my experience as well as new strategies and ways of working. All coaching is done strictly confidentially and is conducted via Skype or telephone.
